Nail Your Senior Photo Look: What to Wear & How to Prep
Getting ready for your senior session is such a fun experience, and one of the biggest things to think about? Your outfits! What you wear can really elevate your photos and help you feel like the best version of yourself. Here are some down-to-earth tips to help you look and feel amazing for your Jacksonville senior photos.
Choose Outfits That Fit the Vibe
Where we're shooting matters when it comes to picking your clothes. Try to match the style of your outfit to the setting so everything flows together naturally.
-
Downtown or urban location: Think trendy and bold—maybe a cute dress, fun boots, or a stylish jacket and jeans combo.
-
Park or garden: Light and soft works beautifully—flowy dresses, neutral tones, or your favorite top and jeans.
-
Beach: Go with something breezy and effortless, like a sundress, romper, or shorts with a casual top.
Keep It Simple (And Avoid Loud Logos)
Solid colors always photograph beautifully. Busy patterns, neon colors, or logos can be distracting—and we want the attention on you, not your shirt.
-
Stick with timeless shades like soft blues, greens, creams, and warm tones.
-
If you love a pattern, keep it simple and subtle.
-
Avoid anything you’re constantly tugging at or adjusting.
Wear What Makes You Feel Confident
The golden rule: if you feel great in it, it’ll show. Confidence shines through in photos more than anything else.
Hair + Makeup Tips to Feel Your Best
Your outfit sets the tone, but hair and makeup can pull everything together. These tips will help you glow on camera—while still looking like you.
Makeup Tips
If it’s in your budget, I highly recommend having it done professionally. It makes the day feel more relaxed, and makeup artists know exactly how to make your features pop in photos.
-
Go for neutral tones—nothing too bold.
-
Add lashes for a soft glam feel.
-
Use a blush that mimics your natural flush.
-
Avoid heavy sparkles or too much shine—matte products are best for photos.
Hair Tips
Keep it close to your usual style, just a little elevated. Don’t try anything drastically new right before the shoot.
-
If you’re getting a cut, do it about a week ahead of time.
-
Soft curls or a polished blowout always look gorgeous.
-
Plan for wind! Have a cute updo option ready just in case the beach breeze has other plans.
Skip the Tanning Drama
We all love a little glow, but skip the spray tans and self-tanners. They can come out orange or streaky in photos.
-
Avoid tanning beds or laying out too much right before the shoot.
-
Watch for tan lines from swimsuits or strappy tops.
-
Use powder or blotting sheets to reduce shine, especially in the Florida heat.
Practice Makes Natural
If you’re not used to being in front of a camera, practicing your poses can make a big difference. It helps you loosen up and feel more natural when the big day comes.
-
Grab a friend and do a mini photoshoot! Have fun with it, move around, and play with your hair or outfit. You’ll find your favorite angles without even trying.
-
Focus on poses that show off your best features—like that killer smile or amazing posture.
-
Ask someone you trust for honest feedback.
Make It Yours with Props
Want to make your senior photos more personal? Bring a few meaningful items to the session. They tell your story in a way that’s totally unique to you.
-
Hobbies: Guitar, sports gear, books, paintbrushes—anything that reflects what you love.
-
Milestones: Cap and gown, a varsity jacket, medals, or awards.
-
Tip: Choose just 1–2 props so the focus stays on you. Make sure they’re clean and photo-ready.
Stay in Touch With Your Photographer (Me!)
Before the session, let’s chat! I want to know what you’re envisioning—locations, outfits, vibes, anything you’re feeling excited (or nervous) about. And if there’s something you’re self-conscious about, I’ve got your back. We’ll work together to highlight your best features and make this session a true celebration of you.
If you’ve seen poses or inspiration photos you love, send them over. I want to hear it all!
You only get to be a high school senior once, and your portraits should reflect exactly who you are right now—bold, beautiful, and ready for whatever comes next.
Let’s make some magic together!
